FOLLOWING CHRIST

Following Christ. New songs and hymns encouraging us to explore all that it means to be a Disciple of Christ.

I AM, SAYS CHRIST, THE TRUTH, THE LIFE

"I am" says Christ, "the Truth, the Life,
     I am the Living Way,
Abundant, rich, Eternal Life,
     A Living River of Water today.

    "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
           No man can come unto God but by Me;
      I give my life a love sacrifice,
            I am the Way you can truly be free.
                          ----------------
"I am" says Christ, "a Shepherd kind,
      Safely my lambs I keep;
The wayward ones I go to find,
      Laying my life down for all of my sheep."

     "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
             I am the Shepherd that loves ev'ry lamb;
       I give my life a love sacrifice,
             Servant of all of the sheep I am.
                          ----------------
"I am" says Christ, "the One True Vine"
       Man cannot live but by Me;
Drink daily of my living wine,
      Bearing much fruit by abiding in Me.

       "I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life,
              I am the Vine that serves you well;
        I give my life a love sacrifice,
             Drink of my wine-- O Israel.

TEACH ME, O LORD TO NUMBER MY DAYS

Teach me, O Lord, to number my days, Teach me to number my days,
That I may apply unto wisdom my heart, That I may apply my heart.
     I am but a man, my years are but a day;
    Short will be my stand, and brief will be my stay,
    And I will not again e'er pass along this way
Teach me, O Lord, to number my days, O Teach me to number my days.

Teach me, O Lord, to number my days, Teach me to number my days,
And let me be wholly devoted to Thee, To daily increase Thy praise.
    Life is like the sand, soon trickled through the glass;
    Flowers we appear, to perish as the grass;
    A thousand years with Thee, as yesterday is past
Teach me, O Lord, to number my days, O Teach me to number my days.

Teach me, O Lord, to number my days, Teach me to number my days,
And satisfy early my deep yearning heart, That I may rejoice always.
    Threescore years and ten are all our lives may hold;
    Fleeting years we spend, a tale so quickly told,
    And judgment greets us then-- our Maker we behold
Teach me, O Lord, to number my days, O Teach me to number my days.

WHEN GOD I HAVE OFFENDED

When God I have offended,
     And all within is gray,
Joy lies in ashes, ended,
     Courage has fled away,
Then will I, trembling, touch Him,
     Trusting his promise true,
Then will my glad heart love Him,
     Treasure his grace anew.

When Christ I have dishonored,
     Hurting his holy Name,
In ways of sin have wandered,
     Sinking in depths of shame,
Before my heart shall harden,
     I will draw near my Lord
Until I find his pardon
     And feel my faith restored.

O Holy Spirit, cleanse me,
     Fill me with God again!
Only his grace amends me,
     Making me whole within.
No more my soul would slacken,
     No more my love regress,
O come! and coming, quicken,
     O stay! and staying, bless!

WILL YOU TURN?

When your heart has been deceived
And your holy God is grieved,
       Will you turn, turn, turn?
Will you see yourself aright
In the Scripture's holy light--
       Will you turn, will you turn?

When you've compromised with sin
And your conscience burns within,
       Will you turn, turn, turn?
Will you on His mercies fall
And surrender Him your all--
       Will you turn, will you turn?

CHORUS:
       Flee dark Hell's eternal dying--
            Let the world go on;
       Seek the Lord, for mercy crying--
            Soon all hope is gone!
       Turn your face, to find His favor--
            For His mercies yearn--
       Ernestly entreat the Savior--
            Sinner, will you turn?

Opportunities have passed
And are disappearing fast--
       Will you turn, turn, turn?
You are hastening on the way
To a certain Judgment Day--
       Will you turn, will you turn?

Will you see your sin abhorred
By a holy, loving Lord?
       Will you turn, turn, turn?
Will you tempt a certain fate,
Till you know it is too late--
       Will you turn, will you turn?
